Lets talk Geek language ! Here you
will find out more about the file
formats we can supply you with.
The most common and
widely used for photographic images
is JPEG. The name JPEG stands
for
Joint Photographic Experts Group
(incase you were wondering). This is
the format that most common and mid
range digital camera's use today.
JPEG provides
for lossy compression of images,
although there are variations.
The JPEG file format is Lossy
meaning with some limited loss to to
the original image quality. JPEG is
at its best on photographs and
paintings of realistic scenes with
smooth variations of tone and color.
In this case it usually performs
much better than purely lossless
methods while still giving a good
looking image.
The TIFF file format
which stands for Tagged Image File
Format. How does TIFF differ to
JPEG? A TIFF file can support a
multiple of images and support tags.
Where as a JPEG can not. Now here is
where the TIFF format has a major
advantage over a standard JPEG. A
TIFF image can be edited and resaved
to any media with OUT suffering any
compression loss. While this format
is the preferred file format of
imaging professionals this might not
be the format for your project. TIFF
files can grow large in size
quickly, especially when scanning
them at a high resolution. In most
cases to the amateur photographer
the human eye will have a
challenging time seeing the
difference between a TIFF and Jpeg.
Another common file
format is PNG file extension, the
pronunciation 'Ping'. PNG stands for
Potable Network Graphic, and
originated from the bitmap file
format, which also employees a
lossless data compression. PNG was
designed for transferring images on
the internet, not professional
graphics, and so does not support
other color spaces (such as
CMYK). PNG only supports a
color palette of 24 bit RGB. So
unless your interested in having
your photo hosted on the internet
only this might not be the best
choice for your project. Chat with
us we will help you to make the
right choice. After being in the
imaging business for 9 years we have
come across it all.
We support so many
file formats it's just SILLY!
Gif, Jpeg 2000 JP2 file, JPEG, PCX,
PNG, PSD, TEPS, PDD IFF, BMP and
most standard RAW. Tell us what you
need, I'm sure we can provide it.
